Your SAR Application

President Hill, new member William Logan and

Registrar Oosterhoudt at April 2008 Chapter meeting

Steps to Becoming a Member

1.  Exhibit sincerity of intent in affiliating with Marquis de Lafayette Chapter, Georgia Society. The SAR does not restrict membership based on race, color,
religion, national origin, or nation of citizenship or residency.

2.  Upon receipt of your intent, we will assist you in conducting a search to determine your eligibility based upon the Revolutionary War antecedents you have named.  Multiple searches may be conducted.

3.  Collect and organize the documentation tracing your lineage back to your Patriot ancestor and forward same to the Chapter.  Get_a_Lineage_Worksheet There is no special formatting;  the worksheet will display directly on your browser and may be printed out.  Use the "Back" button on your browser to return to this page. Direct descent must be shown from a qualifying ancestor, and documented by copies of birth certificates, death certificates, wills, deeds, marriage records, census, estate and Bibles records as well as proof of qualifying service. A copy of all documents listed under Proof of Service and References to document the lineage must be provided by the applicant when the application is submitted. Generally reliable secondary source materials such as documented family histories are acceptable when copies of the original sources documents are not available. "Hearsay", other lineage papers and web pages are NOT acceptable as documentation!

4.  Results of the search, along with a standard National SAR Application, will be returned to you.  Complete the preliminary application and return it along with a copy of your birth certificate.  Also forward copies of all primary and secondary source information supporting  your lineage back to your Revolutionary War Patriot.  Copies will not be returned, and all materials received become the property of SAR.  Sorry, but referenced materials obtained online are not currently accepted.  When submitting copies of published historical text, please include a copy of the title page.

5.  Acceptable secondary lineage documentation in lieu of the above expressed need for individual copies of primary and secondary supporting documentation:  You may be able to save a great deal of effort if you can identify a parent or relative of an earlier member or members of the SAR, DAR, or CAR.  If your brother, father, uncle or grandfather is or was a member of this society, then only a copy of your birth certificate, and other documents to show your lineal relationship to the person who was granted membership in this society if you are using the exact same line of descent. "Record Copies" of original applications of relatives can be obtained from the National Offices of the above organizations.  Same may be accepted for the purpose of establishing your own lineage (does not preclude the need for a copy of your own birth certificate).  Please advise us of your need for Request Forms, as the above organizations will nor forward Record Copies unless the proper form & fees are received.

6.  Application Fees & Dues:

The fee for submission of application will include the first year dues for Chapter, State and National Societies.
