Chapter Committees
The following list are the various Chapter Committees executing the programs of the Society. Some of the Committees listed have addition information available on other web pages, which can be accessed by clicking on the Committee name.
Americanism Committee
Chairman: Bloise Hill
Responsible for organizing and directing the Chapter's efforts to promote the principles of freedom and liberty for all Americans.
Audit Committee
Chairman: Lee Mize
An oversight committee concerning financial operations of the Chapter. Evaluates all financial proposals, existing financial programs and reports findings and recommendations.
CAR/DAR/SAR Committee
Chairman: Mike Tomme
Maintains Chapter relations with local CAR and DAR officers. Promotes understanding, assists with common activities and cooperates with CAR and DAR whenever and wherever possible.
Color Guard Committee
Chairman: Mike Tomme
Responsible for coordinating Color Guard organization, preparation and participation in patriotic observances. Coordinate and provide liaison to the Revolutionary War enactment community.
Eagle Scout Committee
Chairman: Hal Dayhuff
Supervises and promotes the Eagle Scout Awards Program. Maintains continuing liaison with the leadership of Boy Scouts of America organization. Promotes American Heritage through Cub Scout activities and Scout Merit Badges.
Flag Committee
Chairman: John Sloan
Encourages patriotic respect for the flag of the United States. Promotes Flag Day Programs for the week ending June 14th each year. Identifies resources on the history of the U.S. Flag for use.
JROTC Committee
Chairman: Robert Hites
Responsible for the oversight of Society ROTC/JROTC programs, stressing SAR support for every ROTC and JROTC unit in our area. Also, responsible for conducting the Society's ROTC/JROTC program and selecting the winner of the Society's award to the most outstanding ROTC Cadet and JROTC Cadet.
Information and Technology Committee
Chairman: Mike Tomme
Works with Board and other committees to develop and optimize the use of information technology, including the internet, to facilitate the flow of information within the Society and the public.
Knight Essay Committee
Chairman: Bloise Hill
Promotes, supervises, and conducts Annual NSSAR Knight Essay Contest.
Medals & Awards Committee
Chairman: Mike Tomme
Considers and recommends new medals or awards when appropriate. Reviews recommendations for Gold Good Citizenship Medals. Judges awards for presentation.
Membership Committee
Chairman: Geoffrey Oosterhoudt
Combines new member applications, member retention and member reinstatement in its work plan. Increasing membership is its primary goal.
Parade Committee
Chairman: Paul Grimes
Organizes Color Guard and member participation in local parades.
Public Safety Committee
Chairmen: Mike Tomme & Lewie Dunn
Responsible for promoting and conducting fire, safety and law enforcement programs designed to protect human life and property. Also, responsible for oversight of a commendation program designed to recognize those engaged in fire, safety and police work and who risk their lives to preserve and protect the general public.
Publicity Committee
Chairman: Mike Tomme
Responsible for the preparation of press relations, announcements and the like describing NSSAR programs and ceremonies for distribution to newspapers, magazines, radio and television. Responsible for seeking a creative means of conveying the aims, purposes and benefits of SAR to the American public.
Rev. Graves Site Committee
Chairman: Paul Grimes
Continues to register and publish listings of final resting places of patriot forefathers.
School Committee
Chairman: John Sloan & Wayne Libby
Responsible for the development of programs to preserve the traditional teaching of U.S. History in textbooks and in the classroom.
Speaker Committee
Chairman: David Jessel
Provide a pool of qualified speakers that are available to promote the goals of the Society through the spoken word.
Veterans Committee
Chairman: Ted Hackney
Encourages Chapter formal veterans program, making visitations to patients in VA hospitals, and rendering beneficial services. Fosters cooperative arrangements and programs of common interest with various veterans groups.
