Eagle Scout Recognition

The Marquis de Lafayette Chapter of the SAR is proud to work with the Flint River Council of the Boy Scouts of America to honor every Eagle Scout with a Certificate of Recognition.

2008 MDL Chapter Eagle Scout Scholarship winner John Curtis with our Eagle Scout Committee members

The SAR also has a Scholarship Program which is open to all Eagle Scouts who are currently registered in an active unit and have not reached their 19th birthday during the year of application. The year that Eagle was awarded is not restricted. College plans do not need to be completed in order to receive the cash scholarship.

All Eagle Scouts in the Flint River Council are welcome to participate if they meet the age requirement and are registered in an active Scout unit.  It is NOT necessary to have an ancestor that fought in the American Revolution to participate.

The Georgia Society SAR First Place award is Six hundred dollars ($600.00), while runner-up receives $400.00. The State winner will advance to National competition.  At the National level, Scouts compete for $600, $2000, $4000, or $8000 awards. You may apply more than one year if you meet the age requirements but no more than $8,000.00 total from National may be granted to any one Eagle Scout.

Applications are accepted during a calendar year  (01 January to 31 December) for scholarships to be awarded in the Spring of the following year.  Entrants need to complete only one application -- the one for the chapter competition. If it is a winner, then it is used for the state competition; and if it is a winner in Georgia, then it is used for the national competition. This is an annual program with shoulder patches, medals and scholarships presented each year.

The application consists of:

     1. The two page application form
     2. The Four Generation ancestor chart (page 2)
     3. The 500 word Patriotic Theme essay

Note:  Each of the two forms should be printed as two sided if possible.  Details about the scholarship program including past winning essays can be reviewed at the national site.
