Patriots Day

Initiated in 2005, the Georgia Patriots Day Memorial Ceremony recognizes the Georgia Navy capture of three British ships on the Frederica River at St. Simons Island on April 19, 1778, and the Battles at Lexington and Concord on April 19, 1775.  It is sponsored by the Georgia Society SAR and supported by numerous SAR chapters.

"Happy Patriots' Day,"  the original holiday name, commemorates the day of "the shot heard 'round the world" when on April 19, 1775, British and American soldiers exchanged fire in the Massachusetts towns of Lexington and Concord.
